Olympic Park South Master Plan, Beijing, China | 北京奥林匹克公园南侧地块规划
This project is an experiment to unite the three dominant yet uncoordinated building types in contemporary Chinese urban landscape: large scale institutional projects, modern high-rises and traditional low-rises. Drawing inspiration from traditional courtyard houses (Si-he-yuan/四合院) and alleyways (Hu-ton/胡同), the proposal consists of bar buildings and terraces that are modular and, therefore, capable to grow both horizontally and vertically over time. The coherent fabric was also engineered to address the modern dilemma of the demand for density, worsening traffic congestion and the lack of human-scale public space typical to Chinese cities today.
This project is the result of a collaborative studio endeavor of Li Hao and R.J. Tripodi.
